In my experience, (2000-2004) Mary Washington provided an excellent education to motivated individuals. Professors were accessible and intelligent. The size was right for me. Small enough to form a community of people you know. Large enough so that it isn't like high school. Fredericksburg is a great little town, if you take the time to get to know it. Complaints about a lack of a social scene (which were present during my time there) fall on deaf ears. Join a club...there's hundreds. Go to a bar...there's a dozen downtown. In my experience, a well rounded college education prepares you for the rest of life's travails. Don't be too concerned about the "reputation" of the school. I don't think a single employer has ever cared whether I went to MWC, UVA or Harvard. If you're smart and you work hard, you'll be fine.

Question
Political Science needs to have better funding soQuite BrightPolitical Science
Political Science needs to have better funding so they can hire adjunct faculty. Also, the bus. dept is one of the worst in the state and the only reason they are putting money into is because it has higher enrollment, obviously its financially motivated.

The grad school is basically like a community college. I would honestly give the grad school a D- rating. The undergrad has a good and growing reputation, its a shame to see the administration completely blow it on the pathetic grad school and bus. dept. In saying that, if you have confidence in yourself as a person and student, UMW is the place for you. If you know where you want to be in 10 years, UMW offers you all the opportunities to get there. However, if you are extremely extroverted and are consumed with insecurity, go to a big football school in the SEC, this place isn't for you.

Mary Washington was the best experience of my life. The friends I met and the fun I had while in Fredericksburg is beyond compare. Mary Washington's faculty was incredibly helpful and still are even after graduation.
