I just completed my freshmen year at MaryQuite Bright
I just completed my freshmen year at Mary Wash and I absolutely loved it! The school is small in size, but I like it because I will see at least ten people I know on the way to class or get a meal. The campus is absolutely gorgeous year round and centrally located in that it is within walking distance of the historical downtown area and only a few minutes away by car to Central Park, which is a huge shopping center which has nearly every store someone would need. I met a ton of wonderful people, and surprisingly, although I am in-state, I have more good friends that are from out-of-state. I met a ton of people through my dorm and I truly felt like they were my surrogate family. People often say that there is nothing to do at Mary Wash, but it is honestly determined by the people you know and how creative or adventurous you are. There are always parties going on- it is just a matter of knowing the right people to get the invite. DC is only an hour away and can be reached by train, the Rappahannock river is five minutes away, and Richmond is 45 minutes away. I can also honestly say that I am rarely ever bored in my classes. The professors here are great and are willing to help however possible and it's especially nice to be in small classes where you can get to know your professor. The dining hall food can get tiring and bland, but my friends and I always look forward to chicken wing Fridays! Overall, I love it at Mary Wash and I would never go anywhere else!

Question
Opting to go to UMW was the biggest
Opting to go to UMW was the biggest mistake of my life. The school does not encourage any activities or programs that almost every other school does, such as study abroad, internships, or research. I did not leave college with a strong alumni base, a network of any sort, or experience with internships. Many of my professors were adjuncts, even for upper-level and intense introductory courses. Hence the so-called "solid liberal arts grounding" that UMW touts as a drawing card doesn't really exist. Instead, all you get is subpar faculty and teaching in courses you don't need. To sum it up: the only thing I got from UMW was a piece of paper.
