I'm in the stern school of business andAverageEconomics
I'm in the stern school of business and I've just completed one year at nyu.The school is absolutely amazing very bright kids and very friendly. I enjoyed my year the dorm was great and the meal plan is amazing. However the only problem about nyu is its extremely expensive. If your not in Stern or if your not doing Pre-Med at cas i think nyu would be a waste of money because paying $60k a year for this school to get a job that pays 45k isnt worth it. This school is for the rich because alot of people blow money here like its nothing. some classes are challenging while other classes can be pretty easy. I'm not complaining at this school ive had a good time thus far.

Question
I have a bit of an exotic backgroundBusiness - Management and Administration
I have a bit of an exotic background - I studied Fine Arts (BFA) as an undergrad, worked as fashion photographer (in Europe mostly), Co-found an internet startup in late 99. - which, you may have guessed - tanked. I decided to go for an MBA at that point (focus in Finance and Management), applied to seven programs, got admitted to 4 and decided to attend Stern. My MBA experience at NYU Stern was clearly one of the defining moments in my life and my career.

The courses are fantastic and the resumes and abilities of the other students are incredible - the people are ranging form the classic iBanking and Consulting types to medical doctors, race car drivers, dancers, lawyers, ... only to name a few. I learned as much by working with them in closely nit teams, as I did from my professors. Having said this, the faculty at Stern is unbelievable - in my two years, I had courses with Nobel Laureates (Robert Engel), Game Theory Gurus (Adam Brandenburger), Finance Stars (Aswath Damodaran), well known authors (Niall Ferguson - since went to HBS), often cited economist (Nouriel Roubini) ... I could list more, but you get the point.

Overall I experienced a very pronounced work hard, play hard attitude at Stern. This is why you grow on many fronts, not only academically, but also professionally and personally.

I got hired (as did most of my class) after my first year by one of the large strategy consulting firms - my future employer sponsored my second year at the MBA program fully (tuition + living expenses; it is NYC remember) on top of the cash sign-in bonus. Now, six years later (after graduation) I still work at the firm and I am now part of it's management team.

For me, it is absolutely clear that I could not have pursued this career if it was not for these years at Stern and I am not sure that it would have worked out like this, even had I gone to one of the other business school. It was the right choice for me and I wish all you you good luck, if you want to pursue a degree at Stern - It is one of the most remarkable places I have seen.

Question
NYU is great and fosters a sense ofQuite BrightEnglish
NYU is great and fosters a sense of community despite being a very large, public, non-communal sector of the city. The workload is challenging, but not too challenging in my experience (though, of course I've had my fair share of tough classes, my experiences have only exceeded my breakpointing when I was taking about 20 credits, which is certainly not recommended. I'm just a little crazy.) The class sizes are reasonable, including lectures (my science lecture is only comprised of about 20-25 students), and the teachers all know your name and encourage you to participate in class.
