It's one of those schools I had visitedBrightTelecommunications
It's one of those schools I had visited when I was ten and thought "Alright, I'm ready to go . . . goodbye world." To be honest, there was a little pressure from family and church members. But then again, God does that sometimes. If I had been allowed to have everything my own way I would probably be in a very fat coffin right now. Anyway, I must say I was very surprised at how much the university had changed since I had visited in the early nineties. Yes, there were still some poofy haired ugly dressed frump girls and some equally strange male characters (God bless them, cuz I just can't.), but the overall student body seemed to be noticeably more human than what I remembered from my visit in the early nineties. The rules . . . heaven bless them . . . all of 'em . . . are a bit much, I must say. Exhaustive, you might add. But ya know, ten years from now I'm not going to look back and say "Gee, I wish they hadn't been so strict!" Really, there were a lot less rules than I was expecting. I come from a rather relaxed family that just doesn't bother with a lot of the household standards that most other Christian families enforce with an iron fist. So why have I not been kicked out yet? I've never had to be on any kind of probation or experience any of the horrible disciplinary actions you hear about all the time. I've learned to respect even the respectable. I've learned to follow the rules even if I don't agree with them. I've learned that sometimes you can't have things your own way. I've learned that God can use even the ugliest, dimwitted, church fanatic. I've learned that people hate you when they hate your God. I've learned to stop complaining about the faults of the people and rules around me today, and start looking for ways that those flaws can make me a better person tomorrow. Sure, there are some rotten eggs there. But God can use rotten eggs ya know! Before I packed my things and traveled 3,000 miles to a school known in my town only as "The Racist School" I asked God to use this school in my life. I asked God to teach me His lessons even if I hate it. And well, I guess he answered my prayers. If your parents are making you go against your will, pray about it and talk to them! On your part: God never promised that Christianity was going to be easy. On their part: you can't force your kids to be holy. If you truly believe God is leading you somewhere else, than by all means, go somewhere else! Please. They've even said that here at BJU chapel. Tell your parents that I've met enough unhappy students who's parents forced them to come here. You're old enough to choose for yourself. Just keep in mind that people love to complain . . . especially about those God-loving Christians. And my advice would be to picture the people who write those University reviews. Does the person who is writing the article really strike you as someone you want to be like? someone you want to follow? So anyway, if you hate rules, you'd be pretty stupid to go to BJU. And if you hate Christians, you'd have to be pretty stupid to go to BJU. But ya know, I chose to go here, my parents don't control my life, it's only four years, and I can handle it. There were some good, some bad and a whole lot of ugly. But I think I'll survive. Overall, BJU will be an experience I'll never forget. And someday I'll have the weirdest stories to tell my grandkids. I'll be able to say "I survived."
