I cannot say this for other majors but many of the art students are arrogant, rude, and will judge you by the way you do your work. The professors are a hit-or-miss. I really admire two of my professors, one of my professor didn't even know what my name was throughout the semester. My other professor out of the art area was rude, racist, and obviously choose favorites. Many of the teachers get pissy if you can't do something right.
Food is okay. If you choose well, it's not so bad. Though when I was applying for a job at one of my many cafeterias, the manager was asking me very inappropriate questions, questions were I could have sued that person for trying to know about my personal life. Food is too expensive though and some of it isn't even fresh.
Campus itself is hideous and all the buildings look the same because of those bricks everywhere. The statue that is supposed to represent a horse is probably the most ugliest statue I have ever seen. I seriously hope they tear it down. Many of the doors don't close properly and a lot of glass gets cracked. It literally takes the school weeks to repair it.
Many of the deaf students that I encountered were really rude.Dorms are horrid. I learned that people at RIT are too lazy to take stairs if they live in the second floor or if they are going from the basement to the first floor. Rooms have to share bathrooms and some people just don't know how to clean up after themselves. My RA was terrible as well.
2. On campus housing ranges from $450 -$1500 per month. Do not live in the on campus apartments, especially Park Point. They rob you on average $750 per month, and then add other surprise fees just for giggles.
3. RIT IS NOT IN ROCHESTER. YOU CANNOT WALK DOWNTOWN. The campus is in Henrietta, 20 min outside the city. so to go out, you need a friend who has a car and enjoys DDing. Really, you need a car to do anything, as there is no public transport in Henrietta.
4. RIT uses your money to build useless new buildings. They ignore the renovating and updates that need to be done, and instead build a new hockey stadium. The art building is the most ignored in terms of renovating. Avoid the bathrooms.
5. As an art student, professors will expect you to spend A LOT of money on supplies and studio fees. There is no mercy. Expect to spend an extra 1,000 per year on these types of expenses, on top of tuition.
6. It used to be free to park in the farthest lot, about half a mile from campus. It is a very unpleasant walk in the winter. As of this year you now have to pay $100 for this luxury.
7. Student Financial Services, if I may, is the most incompetent office you will ever step foot in during your life time. They hate their jobs, and they hate you for asking them to do their jobs.
8.Each semester you have to pay an extra fee of $246, but no matter who you ask, no one will tell you what this fee is for.
9. In summary, RIT will rob you and your family of a great deal of money, and you will not have that great of an experience. At the end of it you will be writing something just like this. Go somewhere else, just do.
