Positive Negative Neutral Advice
I hate the typical student at my school.Quite BrightArt & Design Department
I hate the typical student at my school. I am a senior now, and I can confidently describe each and every student of this school. EVERYONE thinks they are so hipster, nonconformist, artsy, elitist as soon as they are admitted into this school. I was admitted and that does not mean I have to be an asshole to everyone else. It is like the name of this school tells each admitted student that they are just the coolest and smartest. I have something to tell all new and perspective students: ITS A LIE. Coming to this school does not make you God, you are not better than anyone. In fact I feel that in my time here, a lot of my friends that have gone to schools focused more on critical thinking, rather than objective truth busy work that is so prevalent at NYU have made a much better foundation for life. I do regret my time at NYU mainly because I hate the attitude that students get when they come into this school. Get over yourselves, your not better than anyone.

It's not that great.Quite BrightArt & Design Department
It's not that great. I'm a sophomore, and I'm still thinking about transferring. People say that if you don't like it, you must not be tough, but that's not the case - I just don't like arrogant, uptight, frivolous, superficial people. The majority of the students seem like they just want to be fabulous. I think that the theatre design school is actually making me less creative, it's definitely making me like theatre less. If NYU was cheap, I'd be a lot more okay with it, but I was under the impression that when you pay $60,000 a year, you get an awesome and rewarding college experience. Not true. NYU is a rip-off.

Question
NYU is not worth the money, point blank.Quite BrightArt & Design Department
NYU is not worth the money, point blank. i have been the most unhappy here then i ever though possible. it is simply an extremely depressing environment. it is impossible to feel like you are part of a community in the city, and isnt that what college is all about? if you come here be prepared to spend many many manyyyy nights alone. as a girl, it has to be mentioned that dating life is literally non existent. all of the boys are either gay or taken. the few straight and dateable ones quickly become arrogant and full of themselves. as a consequence, the girls here become VERRRYYY competitive and self esteem among the girls here is generally very low. not to mention that everyone here, girls and boys alike, are extremely rich (we're talking serious trust fund babies here) and snobby.

the academics are simply not worth it. tisch is probably the only school worth going to here, simply because it is the second best theatre school in the country. CAS, LSP, Steinhart, and Gallatian are a waste of fucking time. Sure, you will get a good job after you graduate because NYU is a brand name school but you will have learned shit. and besides, its not worth any of the hell that you get put through socially.my advice: only come here if you absolutely love the city and have no hesitations about urban living, as everyone else has said. even then, be very very very very veryyyy cautious in your decision. thing long and hard before coming here. if you feel the desire for ANY form of normal college experience avoid nyu at all costs. seriously.
