I studied really hard and racked up a high GPAMay 06 2012Public Health
I studied really hard and racked up a high GPA. I participated in a lot of extracurricular activities and took leadership positions in them. I wrote a killer essay.

If you want to get in, make yourself stand out as an individual on the resume. Get research work, it looks great. Have a high GPA. Have High Test Scores. Get leadership positions. Get good recommendations (I would recommend one from a research PI). And write a great essay, remember think unique but believable.

Getting into BME is pretty toughApr 27 2011Engineering Department
Getting into BME is pretty tough...

Starting with just getting in to the university (not BME), it isn't too bad. I think last time I checked it was something around 23%...I know that in my year they over enrolled so the class after me was cut to 17% admission. I think its back to normal now (20-24%).

BME on the other hand is extremely selective...I remember finding an article a few years back that said acceptance was 5.5%. That seems a little low to me. I think we get around 16 to 17 thousand applications each year (don't quote me on that). And each year the BME department brings in 100-120 freshmen. I don't know how many students apply to the BME program and don't get in, but you get the idea.

As far a what I did...its not really important. In H.S. I was spread out among a lot of interests (clubs, sports, etc.) but everyone is different. I had alright standardized scores and my GPA was fine in H.S. Just make sure you write a really good essay. I still think that is the single most important part of the college application.
