I am sorry that I chose a liberalLanguage - French/Spanish/etc.
I am sorry that I chose a liberal arts school for my undergraduate education. In retrospect I would have done better at a college majoring in engineering or some other form of technology. I majored in German at Middlebury but spent a great deal of time and money getting additional training in the Sciences (mostly Physics). I ended up with a Ph.D. but could have done better financially with just a BS in engineering.

Middlebury isn't that bad for minorities. Not so brightLanguage - French/Spanish/etc.
Middlebury isn't that bad for minorities. You have to self-segregate but other than that, no one's going to go out of their way to attack you. It's not that kind of campus. Sure, you'll hear some rude verbal attacks and hear some outrageously racially insensitive opinions in class or in the dining hall, but it's not bad. These things can be expected at a very non-diverse campus such as Middlebury.

Academics are very strong. Chances are that you'll have to write a thesis. This is an excellent opportunity to be exposed to real research before grad school.

This school will offer you a classic college experience. You'll drink, party, study, and have lots of fun. The buildings and surrounding mountains are absolutely awe-inspiring.

However, it gets VERY cold in the winter. Atrociously cold. And you'll get cabin fever because you don't want to go outside because of the cold. Sometimes the heaters in your room don't work. Cold. Cold. Cold. Bring Alaska gear with you. Real talk.

As a minority, I felt uncomfortable but like I said previously, if you seek out other minorities and "outsiders" you'll be fine. I'd still go to Middlebury if I had to do it over again. It made a man out of me!

Question
Middlebury is a great college for those withNot so bright
Middlebury is a great college for those with average grades in non-honors classes & low SAT scores. Although I cheated to get into Midd with the admissions office knowing, I was still given a four year scholarship. Without Middlebury's need for minority students (sometimes 20 points extra are given to Latinas in the application review) , I would have had to attend a state school and work for the first time ever (As a scholarship student during middle & high school, I never worked. Also my parents flew me to Mexico every summer, purchased a car for me, a fancy Canon camera, Apple computer and all the clothes I wanted, so I never felt the need to volunteer or work during high school.) What is great about Middlebury is that in addition to paying for my tuition/board/books they also gave me my first job. Also, when my entire family flew from Los Angeles to Vermont to drop me off for my freshman year my classmates whose families were paying for their colleges (and who wrote their own college applications) treated us as if we were paying for my education, something we have never done. I am proud to be a Latina who cheated to get into Midd because I want to travel to Italy and France on someone elses dime. And, when I earn my Middlebury BA, I will be happy knowing someone else wrote my applications because cheating if fine at Middlebury College and fits my ethical standards perfectly.
