Middlebury College

I was absolutely shocked to read some of the comments below about classicism and snobbery at Middlebury. Based on the tones of some comments, it seems that some of the words may be coming from students who never actually attended Middlebury and/or may hold some sort of grudge. I say this partly because Middlebury is truly one of the most (if not the most) open and friendly environments I've ever been a part of. Yes, many students come from wealth, and many students are white, but this is typical of most top institutions, and any separation or alienation due to class or ethnicity is something I'm proud to say I've never seen here. There are students who come from poverty and students who come from millionaire families, but everyone seems to comfortably mingle together. Middlebury is an incredible place that is welcome to all socioeconomic backgrounds and ethnicities.

Faculty Accessibility: A+, Surrounding City: B-

Honestly, I am really sick of all of the negative comments calling the entire middlebury population snooty waspy kids. So you know the international scene has gotten significantly better in my dorm the minority to non minority is about 1:2. People aren't exclusive, my best friends here one is asian, one is an international from kenya, a guy from england, and several players on the football team. The only people I would warn against coming here are people who don't do anything outside of schoolwork. If you are on a team in any type of arts club or outdoors group.. even if u just go to the gym every once in a while or run, nearly everyone is open and accepting. Sure there are some preppy arrogant rich jerks, but what school doesn't have those? I mean lets be honest here its a prestigious college what do you expect?

And by the way the science department is amazing and our science building is the most contemporary, and largest, building in vermont.

I love Middlebury. It's gorgeous, we have University-like facilities and brand new, professors are accessible, classes are engaging and while there's a lot of work, students are balanced so they get their work done then do really interesting things.

Middlebury's also really international- lots of kids from overseas, a curriculum that makes you take classes in each region of the world, strong languages and language schools, schools abroad, etc.

Gorgeous surroundings, friend of the Environment. Lots of buildings are made from recycled materials and Environmental Science is one of the most popular majors (interdisciplinary). Midd is in-between the Adirondack and Green Mountain ranges so there are a bunch of awesome outdoors opportunities- hiking, kayaking, ice climbing, etc. Midd also owns its own ski mountain so it's so cheap to go all winter long. Brand new lodge, separate cross country ski center and miles of trails.

People are great writers here. Doesn't matter if it is English or Science-based writing.
And contrary to what this site says, people are happy. Everyone I know would never be anywhere else.
Just take a visit. Regardless of what you think now, it will change your opinion for the better. You can't even understand Midd without seeing it first hand.

You can also take off a semester and start in February. Some of my friends did this and I kind of wish I did. You can travel, take classes, etc. before starting in Feb with your own orientation etc etc.
