Texas A & M University - College Station

This is not a place for a liberal-minded person to flourish or develop as an individual. Sexism and racism were all to common. 2.5 years into my degree, I left because I didn't have a friend who didn't worship Donald Trump. I was disturbed and I left the school for that reason. As a female engineering student, my male peers had no respect for me. I was ignored during group activities which hindered my learning experience - especially during robotics and computer programming projects. I felt uncomfortable with the lack of diversity. In a classroom of 200 people I could spot one or two black people (guaranteed to be male). Everyone was kind outwardly, but if anyone would venture on to the anonymous social media app, Yik Yak, he would find true racism and disregard for respect of anyone other than a white male.

Any of my friends in organizations were subject to hazing, including those in the Corp of Cadets. On the other hand, I was challenged and given many opportunities as a student at A&M. My professors were great, and usually foreign which brought an international perspective to my education.

2nd Year Female -- Class 2019

University Resource Use/ spending: A+, Education Quality: C

It's a pretty crappy accounting program. Unless you get into the PPA program, the department gives very little guidance on what to do. I had to enroll in another university to get a masters degree to meet the 150 credit hour requirement because my scholarship was only for four years at the university. And,to keep my GPA up, I had to take classes that didn't count toward either the board exam but counted toward an accounting degree making me deficient with a BBA in accounting of 100 credits and 24 junk credits.

The Texas A&M accounting research is great and I've cited professors in my masters program from another University, but the undergraduate accounting program is not good at getting resources to the wide range of sub disciplines of accounting. Okay, I'm not in the PPA. What do I do if I want to go into tax, information systems, audit? Well, they don't advise you. You are not even allowed to go to recruiting events for the PPA or masters program. Those elitist policies are not conductive to education. I can't even talk to professionals in my own industry.

So, yes. Even though I have a masters from another university and got free school from Texas A&M, I'm still suffering from all the anxiety, depression, and regrets, dealing with this accounting program. It was a traumatic and enraging experience to see classmates graduate with jobs lined up knowing you had to get an extra degree, take the GMAT, apply to grad school at a less recruited school. It pains me that all the effort I took during my sophomore and freshman year to get into the accounting program was all for nothing.

I would recommend getting into the business program upfront so you can get coddled with all the resources , not have to take hard sciences or maths, and get early professional tips and tricks. If not, you are stuck in general studies contemplating should I limit my options by taking easy math and sciences that only apply to easy majors or do I take the weed out engineering courses where the maths and sciences apply to all majors? I honestly hope all my accounting classmates in the PPA divorce, get their CPAs taken away from them, fall into depression, get blacklisted against practicing accounting.

4th Year Female -- Class 2014

I was a National Merit Scholar. I was told I would be given a large scholarship that covered a large part of the cost. I also got in to a few other schools, but the scholarships could not compete so I accepted A&M and put my money down. In the end, the scholarship disappeared. I tried to speak to the financial aid office, and they claimed I had low academics and no ECs. I had been accepted to the honors program also, so I knew they had all my information. I called around but kept leaving messages for staff that never called me back. I sent many emails. My parents could not get anywhere with them either. No one would call us back, no one would respond to emails. We double checked ApplyTexas and all my information was on there. I ended up having to walk away from the National Merit Scholarship (which from corporate level was small, but I had already set A&M as my top choice school) as well as from college this year. It was too late to apply to schools and get scholarships for fall. I am not sitting out.

I do not recommend this school. It is a bureaucratic mess. The administration is awful and will do nothing to correct their own mistakes. As my dad puts it, I guess I "dodged a bullet." If this is how bad they were just in awarding a scholarship they promised, imagine how the next four years would have been.

I recommend staying far far away from this school.I need to add that my SAT score was over 2200 but this site would not accept that score so I left that blank.
