Positive Negative Neutral Advice
I am frightened by a growing trend I'veQuite BrightPsychology
I am frightened by a growing trend I've observed at Southwestern. Over the past four years, I have noticed a serious and increasing disregard for the current student. Alumni and prospects get the royal treatment, while student's rights are abused or neglected in order to make way for these groups. This is not merely my opinion. This is an observation made by someone who has been in leadership and has been involved in many decision making processes at Southwestern. A proof-positive way to tell what programs are important to an administrative staff is to see were the money is spent. A Church Ministries Departement now replaces a Student Union. Athlete's and Enrollment Services employee's (campus promotion tools) receive scholarships, while the Student leaders (Student Congress and SMA) are forced to scholarship their own leaders out of their functioning budgets. And that scholarship has remained the same for at least 9 years, while tuition has nearly tripled. I hope this letter is not seen as negative, or medling. I thank the Lord for my experience at Southwestern, and I wouldn't change my decision to attend there if I had it to do over. I just want to make sure that other students will have the same opportunity to have a life-changing experience at Dear 'ole Southwestern, just as I have. Focus on the students you already have, and more will come.

Sometimes it seems that our campus can be more concerned with the things that other outside people are going to see than the things that are a part of our everyday lives that need attention... such as getting a college center while some dorms still need major rennovations.

Southwestern has expanded tremendously since I was a student; however, I have maintained a close relationship with SAGU. I believe that the majors currently offered are much more marketable than when I was a student.

Obviously, a visit to the campus is essential for prospective students. It is important that they desire to attend college in a truly Christian setting; otherwise, they will be uncomfortable. I also strongly encourage prospects to be cautious in selecting a major. They should think diligently about whether their major will allow them to make the salary they desire upon graduation and what job opportunities are available with that degree. The faculty and atmosphere at the campus is very nurturing. You will be in a smaller town, but you will have access to all of the amenities that Dallas-Fort Worth offer.
