Great friendships formed through the school.BrightEducation
Great friendships formed through the school. Solid enough learning to excel in a classroom whether Christian or public school. The no-accreditation was an issue. In spite of coming through many years after my graduation, the TRACS helped me get the foot in the door at our state's teacher licensing department. What helped most is that I did capture enough concepts in class that 10 plus years later re-taking Praxis I and II yielded me some high scores. TRACS accreditation plus Praxis II high scores granted me my public school licensing in my state. The future regional accreditation will help the most, and our state is so bureaucratic it won't matter to them when the accreditation happened just that it is a regionally accredited school. You definitely need to understand a fundamentalist Christian perspective and hopefully can think for yourself attending this kind of school. Understand that strictly adhering to a university's rules does not yield true spirituality.

Question
Bob Jones prides itself on being the bastionBright
Bob Jones prides itself on being the bastion of Christian behavior and beliefs. BJU will regulate every aspect of your life. Even if you follow all of the rules with a good spirit, BJU will ship you out if you speak your own mind, no matter how gracious you are.

And yet Bob Jones University has no problem electing Chuck Phelps back onto its Board of Trustees. Chuck Phelps accused a 15 year old rape victim of having a "dating relationship" with a 38 year old man. Chuck Phelps lied on the witness stand and attempted to cover his tracks with regard to the rape victim. He lied about her and her character. He shipped her out of his church and removed her from his school and her home and sent her to Matt Olson in Colorado so that the police could not find her. This resulted in the 38 year old rapist remaining in good standing in Chuck Phelp's church.

Yet this is the kind of man BJU puts on its trustee board. And not one trustee resists this action or calls out Bob Jones University for this blatant act of looking the other way.

Bob Jones will kick you out of school for doing what Chuck Phelps did. But it elects Phelps to its board.

Now is this really the type of school you want to attend? A school without integrity? A hypocritical, abusive university? You will regret attending here. Please go somewhere else, but don't go to Northland Baptist Bible College. It is run by Chuck's close friend, Matt Olson. I know, I attended both of these places.

Question
I had a great experience at BJU butEducation
I had a great experience at BJU but I would not send my children there. It's barely accredited; it's too authoritarian; it claims to enforce a Biblical worldview and yet it engages in some clearly unbiblical practices.

I have found work, most of the time unhindered by my BJU degree, but not always. When I was there, I was championed and helped by caring faculty. But if a student doesn't get that help, it is a tough place to be. I know of students who were bullied by other faculty, and my view of the administration is that many bullies work in the Administration building.

Combine that with wahoos telling you in class and in chapel that if your parents divorced, you were going to get divorced, and if your parents abused you, you'd likely abuse your kids, and you see that these people don't really have faith in Christ. They also don't have a clue about how to deal with young adults. They have faith in Fundamentalism, and Fundamentalism rejects all people that it perceives as defective.I was able to navigate around the nonsense, and for me the good far outweighed the bad. But I would never risk a young person in a place with so much arbitrary rule making and rule bending by men in authority who are given almost total power without checks and restraints. These guys really think that whatever any authority figure tells you is God's Will for you, which is really dangerous.
