I transferred out of Pitt last year and it was the best decision of my life. If you want to be raped, mugged, or shot by the locals than this is the place for you. If you want to have professors who could care less about you and your grade, then this place is for you. If you want to live in dorms that have 1,000 students and feel like you are just a number, than this is the place for you.

Overall, Pitt was a huge disappointment. The students are apathetic, and the sports programs are overrated. Yes, Pitt has some of the finest in basketball and football, but the majority of the students do not care. Last year, at the new $100 million dollar events center, Pitt couldn't even sell out mens basketball games. Football games are fun, but when you are there you realize that its all for money.

The administration is greedy and builds buildings for the sake of building buildings. Ironically, as your tuition goes up, more buildings are erected. The city of Pittsburgh is ENTIRELY overrated. However, the school does a fantastic job of selling the city as being like New York, Boston or any other US cosmopolitan city. But after 5PM, the city is DEAD! Downtown is nice...during the day when workers are there. The school also did a fantastic job of making Pittsburgh into a "Collegetown"...since CMU, Duquense, Chatham and Carlow are in Pittsburgh. But, as you will find out, it is not like Boston. Pittsburgh just flat out sucks. If you want to be depressed by the weather and by the black snow that falls, Pittsburgh is the city for you.

Oakland (the neighborhood where Pitt is located) is crap. It reminds me of a shantytown in India. I wouldn't be surprised if rats and cockroaches outnumber people in Oakland. DON'T go here...I know many people who hate it...many who transferred and many who are unhappy that they didn't transfer. Save your money and go to a school that doesn't NEED to market itself...the ones that market real well are the ones that suck.

There's nothing to recommendQuite BrightAccounting
There's nothing to recommend this school - the school's in a warzone and the local students are preoccupied with the pro football team that hasn't won anything in 30 years. if you MUST come here, quickly befriend any non-pittsburgh people you can find. better yet, find a better school.

This place is a war zone and the locals are bizarre. if you don't cheer the steelers you're targeted for abuse. these people have got to get a life. i mean it's been 30 yrs since the last super bowl. anyway, there are much better and friendlier schools to go to. pick one.
