A complete waste of time, but a necessary hoop to jump through to get any kind of a job in a library. With the exception of Dr. Sara Fine (who has since retired from Pitt) the professors are completely out of touch with reality and really don't care about what they are doing-- they have tenure and they are just riding it out. Classes are extremely dull and filled with nothing but high school-like busy work. I have 3 masters degrees from 3 different schools and this was the absolute worst. A complete joke, but again, necessary if you want to be a librarian, as there really aren't any other schools in Pittsburgh that offer the masters in library and information science. I honestly never opened a book and got straight As. If you want to go on to another grad school and need a to spruce up your transcripts, go here, sleep through class, get your As and then go to somewhere to learn something. I have a wonderful job and make good money but it has nothing to do with anything I learned here...I just needed the MLIS. What a waste-- but its the game you have to play. Expect to be bored, but don't worry about working. Don't even bother to buy the texts. It is just like paying for a degree. I don't know what Pitt is like as an undergraduate school, but this grad school is worthless, full of self-serving, zombie-like profs. Students are nice, but anyone with a clue knows what the deal is: a necessary waste of time!!
