What I have to say about RIT isQuite BrightMath
What I have to say about RIT is it is NOT a place to go if you aren't sure of what you want to do. The trimester system makes transfering in, like I did, and out, like I'm going to do, tricky as well. They do have decent/good CS, Engineering and Design schools, but for everything else I recommend a cheaper school (I'm trying to transfer to a SUNY school myself right now for Liberal Arts - Math).

Techinical School is a very good word for this school. Lots of classes are alot of busywork and just teach skills, theres not that much freedom to it. I wanted to explore, be creative, but RIT teaches how to work certain programs or do certain problems. Its not a well-rounded education, its teaching you a job, but if you have a passion for this job, or just want something that makes you money, I think you will be better off than I was.

Socially it really is what you make of it, though I would say its a little harder to "make of it" than most schools (place is a bit of a spirit killer).

Its too expensive, I don't mind the food, and housing is annoying.I really can't badmouth it that much because it just isn't the place for me, but the most important thing to remember (so much so that I have to say it twice): This school isn't about finding yourself, it isn't about being well-rounded, its about following what you really want to do, and if you're sure of it, than I say go for it, though I would look at RPI as well if I were you.

Question
RIT is the worst educational mistake I couldAverageDesign Arts - Industrial Design/Graphic Design/etc
RIT is the worst educational mistake I could have possibly made. I went into this school bright eyed and happy, and now I cry practically every night because I dread returning after the summer, or after a break. RIT essentially sucked the life out of me. My enthusiasm and friendliness towards others has also been downgraded, and I don't feel that I can relate to anyone outside of my major (and not that many in it either). If you want to have a happy, normal college existance, DO NOT GO TO RIT. The social life is slim (and people will tell you there are parties if you look, but they usually consist of the same 20 people), the students are not friendly, and the course work is abundant (which would be ok, however 50% of it seems unnecessary.) Don't make the same mistake I did. Allow yourself a normal life in college; go elsewhere.

Question
After completing two years at RIT, the onlyQuite BrightComputer Science
After completing two years at RIT, the only thing keeping me there is the academics. RIT is quite challenging, and the education and experience you receive is worth the five years of attendance. The social life at school is mediocre. The 70/30 ratio of males to females becomes extremely evident at most (not all) parties where the few cute girls who're actually single are surrounded by three guys each, while all of the other guys are busy getting wasted. This is the scene at *MOST* RIT gatherings. The parties thrown by the sports teams and the greeks have a bit more women and a livelier atmosphere, but you need to know people to find them. That being said, if you're looking for a place where every night you'll go out and party, look elsewhere. Weekends can be a lot of fun, especially with a good group of friends, but the demanding quarterly academic schedule doesn't allow much wiggle room for you to be drunk 5-7 nights a week without falling way behind. If you're looking for a place that will provide good education and prepare you for a prosperous future with some fun on the side, then RIT's the place.
