Alfred University is what you make of it.BrightOther
Alfred University is what you make of it. I made amazing friends, and we had parties and things to do almost every night. Yes the school is semi divided between jocks and art stars, but you get use to it. Or you do what I did and become friends with both. Your education should come first and Alfred gets an A for trying. The school is small and the town is even smaller, but if your optimistic you will be fine.

Question
I went to Alfred for a year andQuite BrightOther
I went to Alfred for a year and a half thinking I was going to go into art. However, I decided to go into Environmental Science instead. This is truly an art and engineering school. If you're into either of those subjects then go for it. There are basically two groups of people at Alfred: the exclusive art student hippies, and the hick football players with their girlfriends. The parties are split up like that too. And of course there is Alfred State across the street to throw in some more po-dunk feel to the place. It is extremely small (and by extremely I mean you feel like you live in a field), and quite unique. If you are an art student though, and want a small hippie population that you will know very well when you walk on campus (because it's so small), then Alfred is an awesome place. As far as the quality of education... I had a few amazing professors that were some of the most intelligent, creative thinking people I've ever met. And the others weren't that bad; they were just average professors.

Question
Alfred University is an enigma.Quite BrightBusiness - Management and Administration
Alfred University is an enigma. From the looks of the campus and the surrounding area, it's a ghost town, but the heart of Alfred U is deeper than the superficial. Up front, if you love a bustling city atmosphere, run away from Alfred, it's not for you. I am not that type of guy. I grew up in a quiet suburb near New York City and that's exactly what Alfred, NY is. The campus is basically the entire town and it's like a quiet neighborhood. The people are exceptionally friendly and helpful and there isn't a place on campus or in town that you couldn't walk at any hour of the night and feel safe. Because there is so little to do in the surrounding town, Alfred makes sure that there are a thousand things on campus to become immersed in. The radio station, WALF, is one of the best in the country. AUTV, the Alfred TV station is great too. Sports, Intramurals, Art programs, Music programs (I was in a band) are all equally supported and embraced. They get top level musical acts to come to campus and play (Counting Crows, Dispatch, The Roots and the Black Eyed Peas just when I was there) and there are tons of things going on all the time. Alfred rocks, I was so happy there and I would go back in a second for four more years if I could.
