The biology department is great but they areQuite BrightBiology
The biology department is great but they are constantly trying to weed students out. The same is true with chemistry classes. Every class is harder and harder and the professors could care less who passes and who fails. However, the social life of chapel hill is the best in the world. There is no place like it.

It's impossible to know how relatively good your undergrad experience is b/c you only get one shot at it. But overall I'm pleased, my parents were alumnae and I was raised expecting to go to UNC, and even though I was admitted to more exclusive universities I don't have any real regrets. UNC IS enormous, but there are pros and cons to that and you have here an accessibility that smaller universities probably lack - and you're only going to get lost in the crowd if you let yourself. I agree that you get out of UNC what you put into it, which is really what we should be looking for in a university, or in a job, or in most things.

I wouldn't trade my UNC experience for anything. Of course, there were ups and downs, but I enjoyed it all, looking back. I was involved in the student newspaper, which took up a lot of time, but I still found time between that and classes to make good friends. As a journalism and poli sci major, I was in mostly smallish classes (especially junior and senior years), and my professors were always willing to make time for me. The journalism school is definitely one of the university's strengths and gave me opportunities to speak to recruiters and get in-the-field journalism experience.
