Positive Negative Neutral Advice
To be honest, I wish I hadn't wastedNot so brightEngineering Department
To be honest, I wish I hadn't wasted so much effort to try to get in. Long story, but I would have rather gone to a ROTC university, and ultimately, I left in the second year. I wanted not so much to go to the Academy, as to be a naval officer. So, I did become a naval officer (OCS) and ultimately had a great career that culminated in command-at-sea. But wanting to be a naval officer isn't enough, and wanting a degree isn't enough (I have three graduate degrees now). I think you have to want to go to the Naval Academy. Period. I was an introvert in a lot of ways and I think that hurt me. Twenty-five years later, I still have nightmares about this place, though one enduring friendship continues. I continue to wish that going ROTC had been an option in my (very unique) situation...I'm sure it would have been fun to have a normal college experience instead of doing either USNA or the route I eventually took to get my degree finished.

I am a gay American seeking a placePreDent and Dentistry
I am a gay American seeking a place of refuge from homophobia. i have found this refuge at the navy academy. for gay men like me I can be with my own kind. Every morning the seamen awaken and begin with partner groin stretches.

then we have sex Ed classes for the rest of the day and watch reruns of sex and the city. Then we end the day with real sexIf u r gay then go to navcy acadmy. It is like Israel for gay people

While it has been a while since myQuite BrightElectrical Engineering
While it has been a while since my attendance, after reading the comments I figured I would add a few that had been overlooked.

If you are interested in a lifelong career in the Military, this is an absolutely fantastic school, and the contacts you make while here will be invaluable. Attending USNA will put you in the best mindset to get your 20+ years in the Navy...if that is your goal.But...if you are thinking of not making it a career, I would suggest you think twice. The biggest issue with USNA is that when you graduate, you will go to see and manage a division of enlisted people. Now if you are a Management major, this is great, but if you got a technical degree, odds are you won't look at ANYTHING in your major for years (around 4-5 years, until maybe your first shore tour). I know that when I got out, my EE knowledge had degraded way too much for comfort. I hadn't looked at any advance work during my first 5 years in the Navy, so the degree was almost wasted. It's something many people don't consider, but it has real ramifications when you get out.
