The academic education was excellent.Math
The academic education was excellent. Small class sizes and professors who were willing to help with difficult material outside of the classroom make this college unique. No Greek Life on campus was a definite plus. The students have fewer clicks and it is an easy place to make friends. This college encourages you to be a well rounded person. While I am currently working in a job outside of my major field of study, the people skills learned at Berry College have helped me tremendously.

Question
Choosing to attend Berry was one of theEnglish
Choosing to attend Berry was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Although there were some pretty hard-core right-wing religious conservatives (I was one when I started there), Berry was where I learned to be tolerant and open-minded. The education is first-class and the professors generally take a geniune interest in their students. In fact, I still keep in touch with some of my English professors.

I did my graduate work at a large public university, and for me, the experience just couldn't compete. I felt like a number, even in the small graduate classes, and I was depressed and lost. At Berry there was always someone to turn to for help or advice. The bottom line is that Berry is not for everyone. It's unique, but that uniqueness is what made it such a good experience for me. If you go, go with the understanding that the classes can be difficult, although this is ultimately to your benefit. Berry wants to graduate people who will reflect well on them, so they make sure you know your stuff before they let you out. Understand also that the students there can be condescending and uptight, but there are also plenty who are warm, friendly, and open-minded. And the faculty can't be beat.

Question
I am majoring in English at Berry andEnglish
I am majoring in English at Berry and love the selection of classes (although I would throw out a word of caution for the Shakespeare class - it's a killer!). However, many of the faculty in the English department really play "favorites" - there are a handful of students that sometimes seem to run the place, and it is often hard to get noticed if you are not one of them, regardless of your skill and effort. If you attend Berry planning to minor in secondary education (along with a major in English, math, etcetera), be prepared for a minor that is almost as large as most majors! It is extremely rigorous and the department often (perhaps even usually) holds education minors for more than four years. However, if you push through, you will graduate with excellent training, preparation to teach in any situation, and ESOL certification (great for getting hired).
