Positive Negative Neutral Advice
The people are friendly but for the typeQuite BrightNursing
The people are friendly but for the type of tuition they are asking for a private school, there should be MAJOR RENOVATIONS to the buildings as well as available parking and school supplies/computers.

My science labs were horrendous. Half the labs were incomplete because there wasn't any money for supplies.

Buildings are very old and are hazardous. The nursing building tested positive for asphestos, which can lead to major lung problems. It's especially a problem if you are highly allergic to dust -- so much of a problem that a professor couldn't be counted to teach the course in the building except on certain days when we weren't in the building. Pipes in the architecture building are exposed with construction openly displayed and being conducted in the hallway hindering the flow of student traffic and safety.ADMINISTRATION IS HORRIBLE. THIS IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST PROBLEMS I HAVE WITH HOWARD. EVERYTHING TAKES FOREVER TO PROCESS, PEOPLE LOSE YOUR PAPERWORK, AND THE ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF IS NOT EVERY HELPFUL. THE SCHOOL IS HIGHLY UNORGANIZED AND NEEDS TO PUT EVERYTHING ON THE COMPUTER RATHER THAN DEPENDING ON PAPERWORK. I GUARANTEE YOU -- IT WILL TAKE YOU AT LEAST A MINIMUM OF ONE WEEK TO GET SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS DROPPING A CLASS DONE. AND IF YOU TRY TO CHANGE YOUR MAJOR -- GOOD LUCK.

Question
I am going to talk about my experienceBrightArt & Design Department
I am going to talk about my experience at Howard so far, as a freshman, and as a commuter student.
Commuting: Commuting is terrible. The Shaw/Howard station is quite a walk from campus and the shuttle buses never seem to come frequently.

Professors: a hit or miss situation. There are some professors that will help you, but you have to ask for it or prove that you are worthy of taking up their time to help you. Not that this is a bad thing: I have met so many wonderful professors here. Now, some of them are truly terrible and cannot explain their subject work or simply do not want to help you at all.

Students: to me, the best part about Howard. You will meet SO many cool people here. Everyone is pretty nice, and there are a lot of outgoing people here that will make you laugh or smile. There are so many different people here and you will love Howard if you love to meet all kinds of people. It is really easy to meet people here and make friends: all you have to do is not be too afraid to approach anybody or introduce yourself. Many students at other colleges complain that they can't meet people because they are not dorming, however, at Howard, that isn't a problem.

Major/Minor: because of the situation I am in right now, the biggest advice I can give is to do your research about the programs Howard offers. Please, Please, Please, do not enroll at this school "just to be here." You will find yourself wasting your time and $19,000 of tuition money. Howard offers many programs, but only enroll if your program is popular at Howard and can get you a job or internship because you are in that program at Howard.

I made the mistake in being in a program that is simply ludicrous and mediocre and I am transferring. Howard doesn't provide good resources for ALL of their programs, just to let you know.In closing, Howard was truly an experience that I am grateful to have experienced. I have met wonderful people and learned a lot about myself, however, continuing my education here will not help me in the long run.

Question
I was a high performing student before comingQuite BrightBusiness - Management and Administration
I was a high performing student before coming to Howard. It was a "safety" school on my list. I had always envisioned myself attending a top-20 school and was actually accepted to 3 top-20 schools. However, money played the largest role and Howard ended up offering me a full ride scholarship. As a black student that was coming from a fairly elitist, predominantly white school, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. The first thing I noticed when I got here was the surplus of beautiful women and diverse (sometimes even questionable lol) style choices. For a while I wanted to transfer because I didn't feel like I was being challenged. That is until my friend, who is currently attending a top Ivy-League school, came to visit me. From what he told me, I realized that there wasn't really that big of a difference. Howard really is what you make of it. There are those who, after graduating end up becoming blue-collar folks working for a steady but low pay. Then there are those who graduate having done internships every summer while here and make 6-figures just 5 years after leaving. If you want to come here, please make sure that you join RELEVANT clubs and do extra curricular's that are actually going to benefit you going forward in life. Don't join a dance team when you already have 10 other commitments a day TRUST ME. Leave your room every once in a while and make sure that you get to know your fellow students at the beginning of the year. Howard students have a tendency to be sort of cliquey initially (however, the older we get, the more that fades away). The women are beautiful here but don't expect to find your wife (unless you're into girls who have had lots of...never mind). Overall, I'd give it a solid 8/10. It's a great school with a great history, but at the same time, the campus doesn't look that great. For a college, especially one with the prestige that Howard has, you'd expect to be walking into buildings that are reminiscent of your small town public middle school.
