When I moved here from New York, IQuite Bright
When I moved here from New York, I wasn’t sure what to expect of the Photography department here. A lot of my friends said the place was a real estate operation, but those same friends went to a more traditional art school and are either still currently looking for jobs or are getting paid significantly less than I am. I was definitely apprehensive in the beginning b/c everyone talked about how “businessy” it was, which is partially true, I learned how to market/position my work and so now I get do what I love without my cell phone and cable getting turned off every month.

Question
The city is beautiful, the faculty for theQuite BrightArt & Design Department
The city is beautiful, the faculty for the most part is nice and helpful. The only bad part about the school is the president. If you want a very well rounded art education in one of the best cities for art, then go here. If you don't want to spend alot of money go to community college, complete all your Liberal arts and GS classes, then take alot of your art classes at The Art Institute then get into the serious stuff at AAU.

I am a firm believer in the view that college is what YOU make of it. If you come into an environment where you are unprepared, afraid or closeminded than you are likely to fail.

The Academy of Art has its share of faults and shadiness, but overall it's a good school. I just finished my first year and while it sometimes seemed redundant, I had a very good time.

It was difficult, I noticed that a lot of people drop out after one semester and I can't blame them. Most of the people who drop out think it's art school, how hard can it be? Or that their hands will be held from the get-go to the end. AAU is a very independent school. It's hard to make friends, it's hard to get good grades but if you try hard enough....and overall TRY you will suceed.

Of course this site attracts the whiners...I actually found out about this site from a whiner formerly known as my roomate...Don't be discouraged by this site. Make your own decisions and good luck!
