This school is 98% concerned with earning profitQuite BrightInterior Design
This school is 98% concerned with earning profit to further its real estate empire, and 2% concerned with the success and well-being of its students.

The building I spend most of my academic time in (2300 Stockton St. Interior Architecture and Design) is DISGUSTING. There is black mold growing on the ceilings and walls of my department's building, and many of the classrooms are above 85 degrees during the day. Everyone in the building is constantly sick, and the administration does nothing. We consider this to be ironic considering we're in the INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT, supposedly learning how to create safe and inspiring environments.

I've had a few good, semi-dedicated instructors, and several who are only teaching because they can't find other work within their industry. Unfortunately the few good ones don't make up for the awful ones.

This is a school where cliche's really shine. "You get what you give" right up at top, the instructors aren't here to hold your hand, they are here to show us some methods and let us free, then show us what works and does not work, over and over and over until we are able to do this without their aid. Granted some should not be teaching, but its just as easy to change classes and show the administration that so'and'so's class sucks, as it is to just write nasty comments about the whole school. But as long as you are putting yourself into your works, and actually listening to what is said, there is no reason that you cannot grow. These people are not just some hacks, they are from the industry, where we would like to end up.(hopefully, otherwise what are you doing complaining about/and going to this school if you dont want to be a professional artist?) These people have already made their way into the industry and know what it takes, you just have to be sure that you are in a class with one that is able to convey what they know, to you.All of this said, I am very happy with my department, my classes and my growth.

Question
The Academy regards it's students as cattle.Super BrilliantDesign Arts - Industrial Design/Graphic Design/etc
The Academy regards it's students as cattle. Students are often berated and belittled to a pulp, then the next batch of money bags -I mean, students- will come in, leaving only the subservient and subdued ready to molded into corporate "creatives". I was even told by my admissions advisor that a bulk of the students would be gone by the end of the first semester, which as projected, actually happened. Although, she said that it would be due to "the rigorous academic curriculum", but that seemed to not be the case, as most of the students leaving or transferring were some of the best. Living in the dorms, I noticed a lot of my peers getting over-penalized for "typical college antics", almost expected art student behaviors, by the school's "zero tolerance policy", and some of those students were kicked out of the dorms, which affected their studies, and eventually led to their dismissal. Some students even became homeless after their dorm situations. It's been a year since I transferred schools, and since then, I really regret wasting my time and money at AAU.
