Positive Negative Neutral Advice
I've been reading these past comments on thisQuite Bright
I've been reading these past comments on this school, and all I can say is that you're going to get out what you put in.

I'm an animation major, and so far I've been challenged and have grown as an artist from my experiences. However, I am also a student who works really hard for my grades. I've had great professors in all of my classes, and if that is what seems to be problem--then do something about it! If you really are hating the class within the first weeks of class, then get out of it, there might not be a time which is as appealing, but at least it would be a better option. Don't just sit there for the 15 weeks and just flounder around being miserable the whole time.

While the "higher ups" of the school are rather aloof and concerned only with themselves: you shouldn't be concerned with them. Worry about your education. Do your school work, go to the workshops, ask questions, be alert, go to class, and you will be rewarded for your effort.

Many people come to this school expecting it to be easy, as if they had done poorly in high school, and since this school doesn't require a portfolio, they think that it'll be an easy option for their education needs--no, instead they'll find themselves unprepared and drowning.

Money seems to be the other complaint. Sure, the school is expensive, but it must be taken into account as to how moderately priced it really is compared to other schools. Here you really do get what you pay for, as long as you are willing to put your full and entire effort into your school work. Don't give up from reading all of these negative reviews! There are bad things about the school, and there are good things as well. You just need to take it as it comes and make the decision for yourself.

Question
Many students have complained that this college isNot so bright
Many students have complained that this college is only after your money. Well yes they are a business, most colleges would not last and wouldn't be around if they weren't making money from their students. Professors and others who run the campus have bills to pay too. Even state colleges and universities throughout the United States are there for the money as well.

The college is accredited, it was fully accredited in 2007. They also offer many of their majors online but only the ones that have been accredited for online work. Certain majors like architecture are only available through the campus.

Do your research, go to their website and read about them, go to wikipedia and type in "Academy of Art University" and click search, you will come across a lot of info on the university itself.

As far as the university buying up real estate throughout San Francisco, well I don't care about the politics. I understand that its annoying but hey at least its students that are using those buildings, its better than having some other corporation come in and turn them into condos.

College is what you make of it. But yes, AAU is legitimate, they are accredited, the online majors that they offer are also accredited for online work. Certain majors like architecture are campus only because they were only accredited for the campus and not for online work. AAU seems to have been working really hard lately to be taken seriously and I think its great. I respect them for that. They are open admissions because they want to give everyone a chance to at least try. They don't give out degrees, you have to EARN yours and work your butt off to get it. Yes they are somewhat expensive but that's any college these days, there are more expensive colleges than AAU.

This is my second degree so maybe myQuite Bright
This is my second degree so maybe my insight is grounded in that notion: The Academy is truly what you make of it - I am 1.5 years in now ( May 2008) and LOVe what I have learned and am so thankful to have had the experience to learn from TEachers LIke Ruben Deanda, Henry Yan, Chris Canga and Zhaoming Wu! My drawing and painting abilities have just grown so much I can hardly believe it! I recommend the school - especially for students of fine art or illustration insterested in a classical realism focus.
