Texas A&M is not the college experience I dreamed of. Before I went off to college, I literally sat and read tons of reviews from this very website that I thought would help me make the right decision. Texas A&M had the most positive reviews out of every college I had been accepted to which was pretty much every school in the SEC, so I ended up choosing Texas A&M. If I could go back and do it all over again, I can't say I would choose Texas A&M. I love being an Aggie and what being an Aggie stands for but in all honesty I really don't like the student body here. First of all, a little bit about me. I am out-of-state (from the South, yet for some odd reason I'm still called a "yankee"). I'm a stereotypical aggie as in I'm white, republican, and middle class. If you're from out-of state or you come here without people from your high school than MAKING FRIENDS HERE WILL BE HARD!! Just about everyone here hangs out with the same people from their high school. It's freakishly weird and annoying. I'm in a sorority and that where I have found my close girlfriends. If I was not in Greek Life than there is no way I would still be here, but even sometimes I don't feel that accepted in the Greek system. I like my major and the people in it are super nice, but the people here DO NOT hang out outside of class. So don't plan on making friends in your classes for the most part. The biggest disappointment I have had here at this university so far is the guys. First of all, they all have girlfriends they bring with them from high school, get engaged senior year, end of story. Those that don't have girlfriends from high school (few and far between) are just interested in picking up drunk girls for the night down on Northgate. Growing up, I never had a problem getting attention from guys ,but its a different story here. They don't flirt with you. They don't talk to you. They don't ask you out. They rarely hit on you. I know a lot of attractive females too and they share the same problem. The guys here are just super weird. Honestly, I do not think it's me either because as soon as I'm out of College Station I don't have this problem. I have been asked out once here, yes once , and I'm a junior. The party scene here sucks. The fraternity parties are nothing but super wasted girls and creepy non-student people. It's difficult to find a house party, and Northgate is just an inconvenience. The parking sucks down there and once again, people don't socialize with one another. Whoever you go with is who you will drink with the whole night and you will not meet new people. Unless you look completely slutty you will not get hit on or talked to by guys. End of story. Academically, this school is rough. If you can keep above a 3.0 , you are doing well. You will have to study and you will have to study a lot. Maybe this is part of the reason why the social scene sucks. College Station is not that charming and there really is not much to do. For the most part everyone is friendly here which is why its difficult to explain that it's hard making friends here. Also, I was expecting Texas A&M's student body to be made up of country people. Let me be the first to tell you, it most certainly is not. Everyone here is from the suburbs of Dallas or Houston, and are the farthest thing from country. In short, if you don't care about a great social life than this school is the place for you. If you can get by with one or two good friends than awesome, otherwise you should probably think long and hard before coming here. Texas A&M has a weird social scene ,and that's just that.
