If you care about your education, don't come to this school. GSU is basically a community college in Atlanta. It looks and feels like an inner city high school. Most students commute and there is no room for student development through volunteerism, philanthropy, research and student clubs. Classes are rampant with grade inflation. Faculty don't seem to care about what they teach. Professors here are paid just as much as professors at UGA and Georgia Tech despite the huge disparity between the budget and quality of the programs. Most GSU programs are unrepresented in national rankings, and I question the value of a degree earned here. The student body is very violent. I think this is a recent thing. We get crime blotters nearly every week. The campus is very rundown and "ghetto". Georgia State touts diversity like anything, however, the strongest presence on campus is African-American. You can easily tell that the diversity cover is a blanket statement. GSU caters to mostly minority students and it makes me(a white male) uncomfortable to see that there are seven different African student groups, but ZERO groups catering to European culture. Many student groups exist at Emory, Georgia Tech, UGA and other schools for German students, Spanish students, Italian students, English students..there is nothing at GSU. There is no tradition or sense of unity on campus apart from small niches in campus housing. I have not enjoyed my time here. I am a part-time student, and I wish there were other options for students such as myself. I would not recommend this school to a senior in high school.
