Major: (This Major's Salary over time)
I would strongly recommend any current high school student that is about to go into college to NOT attend OSU. My entire experience at OSU was absurd. When I was first accepted, I was incredibly proud and excited. I was originally going to go to CSCC for my gen. eds. and then transfer to OSU (mostly to save money). However, I chose to go to OSU and I sincerely regret this decision. I went to OSU with a positive and open attitude. I could not wait to get involved in the campus community and meet my professors. From day one, my experience was everything but pleasant. -I had an advisor simply not show up to an appointment I had scheduled with him (I didn't live on campus, I had to leave early for work and use extra gas). He never even apologized. I was re-assigned a new advisor and when I showed up to her walk-in hours, she was not there and the staff was very rude when I asked if she was going to be back anytime soon. When I gave up and met with a general advisor she did not listen to a word I said. I asked her what kind of career options I was looking at in regard to my major, but that I was NOT interested in teaching. She cut me off and told me about the great education program they have at OSU if I was interested in teaching. I was literally dumb-founded. I gave up on that avenue of information and asked her to show/help me lay out my four-year projection plan. She tossed two giant packets at me and said they were the list of classes I would need. One of the packets was for the semester conversion and when I asked her to go over which classes would be affected greatly by the conversion she said something about everything not being quite done yet. -I had a French teacher tell my entire class we "it would do us some good to get some culture" in a condescending tone. I had a Linguistics professor who didn't speak English very well and actually deducted points from my tests because I answered with how I as an English speaker would phonetically pronounce words. I had to challenge her on why she took away my points and told her how I pronounced the word. She also frequently needed to make test corrections for the whole class and almost didn't give back all of our tests before the final exam. -The campus is beautiful and yes, there are many things to do downtown. However, for the expensive tuition (not including a dorm, a meal plan, books, etc) and being treated worse than I have ever been treated by any educational system, having a "pretty" campus simply does not cut it. I honestly do not understand how so many of the faculty that chose to go into the educational field could be so unprofessional and rude. I was honestly excited about what I was going to learn at OSU. Sadly, I left broke, insulted, and in broken spirits.
