Major: (This Major's Salary over time)
I enrolled to OSU thinking I was going to come out with a lot of knowledge especially from the GEC courses, but be warned: YOU WILL BE SPOON FED A TRUCK LOAD OF PROPAGANDA ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING, OBESITY, GOING "GREEN" & HEALTHY LIVING!! The only non-politicized GEC course was (according to what I took) MATH. When taking GEC courses - the instructors/TA's ALWAYS make a SPECIAL EFFORT to bring up global warming, obesity, going "green" and other such irrelevant propaganda. Most of the time, I felt that the GEC's were 90% spoon feeding and 10% challenging/thinking. The major courses were OK. OSU has beautiful landscaping all over, but in actual fact - buildings are run down and falling apart. The university is so absorbed with spending money on making OSU "green", that it doesn't give a f*** about student's comfort and enjoyment coming to learn there - the roads have been narrowed in favor of trees and grass being planted. There are not enough parking spaces, and somewhere on campus there is ALWAYS AN AREA CLOSED OFF FOR CONSTRUCTION. There is no sense of responsibility among the students - it's all about drinking, clubbing, putting off homework/assignments for the last minute and other such behavior. School comes SECOND. So, if you're one who loves to drink, party and socialize - OSU is the university for you! Some professors (even in the higher level courses) don't give a flying f*** about undergrads and the fact that they are learning the course material for the first time. They teach the material AS THEY PLEASE!! I had to withdraw from one of my classes because of this. Regarding setting up meetings with your adviser - LOTS OF LUCK!!! It takes at least 6 weeks to get a response to emails or even make an appointment with them - it's ridiculous! Don't make the mistake I did - research your university thoroughly... it may save you valuable dollars in the end.
