Major: (This Major's Salary over time)
I just graduated from UNCW and after 4.5 years, I would definitely make the same choice to attend again if given the opportunity. The area is great. Wrightsville Beach is super close and CB isnt that far either. Downtown can be sketchy at times but is safe. The beach is fun at night too. Wilmington has over 65 bars within 10 miles from downtown and there is of course the beach... The professors will make you work for your grade, I only had one professor that was super easy within my major, but a lot in the English department and Physch dept. Different departments have different expectations of their students, so if you are a marketing major, you will be able to go out every night of the week, but if you are pre-med, youre kidding yourself. The area is awesome, the people are great. There is a good mix, even though the campus is lacking as far as diversity goes. Athletics are lacking (track and swimming excel) but almost all students participate in intramural and club sports. The gym is packed all year round and currently (2011) the gym is undergoing construction to 2.5 times its current size. People are very active and with days well into December with 60 and 70 degree temps, its not hard to stay active all year long. Wilmington has been named the top fit community in NC several years running. The school does a few things differently than other schools. First, there is move in. Move-in is obviously the first day for students, but at UNCW, the students wake up early to move in the incoming freshmen. By the time you get out of your car, and get to your dorm room, all of your boxes are there in the hands of students waiting for you to get the key in the door. Secondly, there is Beach Blast, a day when the student body shows up at a designated section of WB. I'm sure its pure hell for the police and lifeguards, but its fun. And both of these events occur in the first week of arriving on campus. Overall, I feel bad telling about how much I like UNCW, because it will only draw more people to the area, but at the same time, I want other people to experience UNCW as I did.
