I am a sophomore at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire. My senior year of high school I was deciding between, well many schools, Wells, Keene State, Hartwick, St. Rose and some others. With no colleges turning me down, I had no idea where to go. I ended up making a pro con list. But I ended up going to Colby-Sawer because it was different from all the others. Plus, I felt like my mom secretly wanted me to go here. Although, I might be wrong. I have heard a lot of people say that they really don't like it here and that they would kill to have a ticket right out of this place. I am not one of these people. I'll admit, there are the few things that irk me, but there aren't enough to get me packing my bags. Yes, I'll admit, im one of the students with a car on campus, so I do take my joy rides out of town to Concord, Nashua, or even Manchester, but there is very little to do around town, I will admit, unless you are looking for food or get your nails done, or happen to be the 1 or 2 students at CSC planning their wedding and looking for a cake. (That was a joke). The surrounding town is made up of older people, and I will admit, it may not be the best place for campus life. On the other hand, it is really the College that runs the town. If this town didn't have a college it would be close to nothing. The food here is of course college food. Actually in comparison, some of the food buildings at Yale have just as good food and as many options (or few). But Colby-Sawyer is not a huge university like Yale or Keene State or Dartmouth. It is a small college with an intimate teacher-student relationship. That is one of the strongpoints here. You will be assured attention. Maybe not from the professor you want it from, but that is the professor's business for not getting to students, not the schools. Concerning parties? To be honest this campus has a lot of activities. And if there isn't something that you are interested in, you can always go an get people interested in starting a club, or something. So some of the fact that people leave on weekends is yes, the student's fault. People need to make their college experience what they want it to be. Because if people don't take opportunity when it comes to them, it will not be much different at any other school. So thinking about coming to Colby-Sawyer? You shouldn't forget that there are some good things about this college, despite all the negative reviews. But after all is said and done, Colby-Sawyer is not a big university filled with many students, and if you need big and the things big schools can provide, then you should definitely choose that. But on the other hand, if you want something close and intimiate, and sometimes challenging, sometimes not (depending on the teacher) which is good that you do have some control over who you take courses from, then you should come here. I will admit, I came to this school with a horrible attitude, when I visited my senior year of High School, the people I saw in the dining hall made me think, I am not going to fit in here, and I'll admit Im one of the loners, with a job off campus, but amazingly it does feel like home in a weird way despite all the things that could be nicer about it. So, I hope I didn't offend, but that is my insight on it.
