academics - La Salle is generally underrated when it comes to its academics - every school has some great professors and some horrible ones, La Salle isn't an exception. I was lucky and have had only really helpful profs so far. the Comm. department is pretty good but it could definitely use some updated technology. social scene - One of the things I was most looking forward to about college was meeting a diverse range of people. after a few months, I realized I was very disappointed. I did find a couple of people that I'm really happy I met but other than that, it's mostly wealthy Catholic people from the suburbs of Philly or New Jersey. The better parties are closed and the ones that aren't consist of a crowded basement, drunk frat guys, and a keg filled with watered down natty light. lovely. if you're not into that, you have to take the subway further into the city, which I don't mind doing but the cost adds up. food - Going into college, I knew the food wouldn't be the best I've had but La Salle is definitely lacking. Living in North dorms, B&G was beside me but it was horrible, so I either walked across campus to Treetops or ate in my dorm. Treetops is better but there isn't much of a selection and it gets old quickly. The Union is closed by mid-afternoon ad the market is meh. Compared to Temple and Drexel, La Salle leaves a lot to be desired. Philadelphia is an awesome city and I love living here but my biggest complaint is that tons of businesses except 21+ places can close as early as 6pm. since I am not quite old enough, this is an annoying limitation. and the subways only run until midnight. Some buses go all night but they take longer and can be confusing. The administration is often more concerned with its self image and trying to censor students rather than letting them express themselves but they do give a lot of financial aid. in general, I know lots of people that love La Salle as well as a lot of people that dislike it. it can be a great school for the right person but I am hopefully transferring to another school in the city this fall.
