Major: (This Major's Salary over time)
As a transfer student from Pensacola Christian College (PCC) with a choice between having to start a new program all over at a university outside of Pensacola,FL where PCCs classes are not recognized or continuing classes at UWF closeby, I chose the latter. I lost motivation from the get go due to lack of interest in Marine Biology and taking tests. I realized quickly how the most of the education system in the US is based on tests: Generalized, standardized, and otherwise useless tests! Instructors should assign other forms of student work, such as writing, class projects, etc...to gauge a student's handle on subject matter. UWF administration is blatantly treating its current students like dirt compared to potential or incoming students. Upper level classes have been reduced in number to make way for standardized required classes for incoming freshmen. It's pretty obvious to current students who are paying attention to how their personal learning goals are being ignored. Even staff and faculty have being noticing...some of them have been honest enough to commiserate with the students such as myself who realize this. Two important major undergraduate programs (botany and micro biology) were cut and are no longer offered. But the athletics programs have expanded in many ways. You can't tell me that the two aren't correlated in some way. It's pretty obvious that UWF is cutting back in important areas to current students (services, more fees, etc...) to make way for expanding Athletics to attract freshmen (=more money to UWF). !!!!!!!!!Don't go to a school like UWF that's being run like a competitive business instead of a center for higher education!!!!!!!!!!! You will feel cheated if you're a biology major.
