Going to Villanova was quite possibly one of the worst decisions I ever made. Before I decided to go there I kept reading about how the student body was full of rich white kids who didn't really accept anyone else. I thought this wouldn't be a big problem for me. I wanted a good education and to meet new people. I quickly found that both of these things are impossible at Villanova. I guess I shouldn't say that it's impossible to get a good education, but for all the hype it gets about being a nationally recognized university with one of the best educations around, I found the coursework to be easy, dull, and unrewarding. I was shocked to find that the classes were actually easier than the classes I took in high school. I was taking a very full and "challenging" course load, yet I still found myself sitting around all day with nothing to do. This, however, is far from my biggest complaint about the school. The campus is HUGE, and the freshmen have to live on south campus, which means you have to walk about a mile to get to any of your classes. There is ONE shuttle that all of the students want to ride, but considering there are thousands of kids and maybe 15 spots on the shuttle, it is often impossible to get on it, especially when it is raining or snowing or freezing or really early in the morning. That being said, the shuttle driver was one of the only friendly people I met on that entire campus. Again though, not my biggest complaint. The students were absolutely horrible. They were rude and preppy and stuck up. They seriously all came from small private high schools where the biggest rebellion they ever engaged in was hiking the skirt of their prissy little uniform up too high. They were so sheltered and spoiled by Mommy and Daddy, and now that they're living away from home they think they need to act out. Acting out, however, simply means standing in a corner at some frat party getting drunk off half a beer. The frat parties are ridiculous. They are always happening and everyone goes, but if you're not into that, then you will have absolutely nothing to do. You will literally sit in your dorm all alone every single weekend. The Villanovan student is not worth talking to, let alone befriending. The most interesting thing they will tell you is the story of the time they got grounded for not paying attention in church. But wait, it gets worse. Here it is, the worst thing about Villanova... it is the most uber Catholic place you could ever imagine. People always say that it's religious but not overwhelmingly so, but the people that are saying this ARE uber Catholics who don't mind their teachers telling them they are going to burn for their sins on a daily basis. I however, greatly minded this. The religion classes that you are required to take are absolutely ridiculous, and even the freshman seminar class is simply another opportunity for the school to smother you in Catholic propaganda. I seriously had to write 6 papers all with the exact same theme... God is all powerful and man is an ignorant, ungrateful, insignificant being under Him. It makes me sick to even think about it. There are so many required classes that you will never be able to take the classes you want to take if you want to graduate on time. Maybe that's a tactic used by the school to try to weasel another exorbitantly high semesters worth of tuition out of you. I decided very quickly that I not only wanted but needed to transfer. It was nearly impossible to get anyone on that campus to help me with that. I literally spent entire days walking from building to building searching for someone to help me, and every time they would just roll their eyes and send me to someone else. Overall, if you are a stuck-up, arrogant person with nothing better to do with your life that sit around writing papers about your own worthlessness, or you will feel cool standing in some frat sipping on your very first beer, or you like being ignored, walking miles in the snow to class, and wasting your money on a mediocre education, then Villanova is perfect for you. But if you have even an ounce of dignity, stay away from this school at all costs.
