The Ohio State University is a great place to be if - big if - you are intelligent enough to pursue all of the opportunities available here. It has a surprisingly low student to teacher ratio (far below national average for public schools) for its size and has attracted world class faculty and is considered one of the premier research institutions in the country. Our president is rated among the best in the country and has improved OSU a lot and is active in student functions and activities (like, he goes to our parties and has students go around deleting photos of him around alcohol, hahaha.) If you go to this school only wanting to go through the busywork to get a degree and/or waste all your time and money on booze, you will have missed the bigger academic picture here and will no doubt feel like this university is just a meeting ground for boozers and sports fanatics. I mean, that is true of a good portion of students here, but that is true of any large school. This school is also not friendly to people who cannot responsibly manage their lives. OSU does not have the luxury of small private schools to babysit your life and needs. You need to be a go-getter and take charge of your situation here. It teaches you a lot. The people who complain about this are just whiners, complainers, mama's boys, and just generally immature people who are afraid of doing things for themselves. The football atmosphere is great, Columbus - while not New York (my home town) - is a very clean and it is an interesting city in its own right. In addition to the Buckeyes, Columbus has its own professional sports teams (Blue Jackets, NHL, and Columbus Crew, MLS) that have great fan followings. There are a lot of stupid/narrow small-town Ohio kids here, but with a student body numbering over 50,000 students from around the world, it isn't hard at all to find quality people here. OSU has a surprisingly beautiful campus as well. It has a very all-American college experience feel to it. I don't think anyone could go wrong in selecting to go to OSU; you just need to be responsible about academics, seize and seek out opportunities that are available around the campus and academic world, and have fun. It is hard not to have fun here.
