I stumbled onto this website just the other day and have, like many of you, spent some time perusing the myriad of comments about BJU. The comments definitely run the gambit-from the intelligent, well thought-out to the laughable and absurd. My four years at BJU were, without a doubt, some of the best of my life. I graduated in 1987 with a degree in accounting, and though I worked in that field for only a couple years after graduation, I still consider the education I received to be top-notch. The accounting field just wasn't what I was cut out for. However, the solid training for life in general that I received has been invaluable. I was able to build a solid foundation upon which the rest of my life could be built. As for a BJU diploma being worthless? That notion is simply absurd. As I have already stated, I chose not to stay in the accounting field. However, many of the fine people that I went to school with have done extremely well. Off the top of my head, I know of several graduates who are now at the pinnacle of their professions and give all of the credit for it to the quality of the BJU program. One of these is my own brother who is now a partner at one of the "Big 4" accounting firms. So if any potential students are reading this, I say to you that your BJU education will definitely prepare you and open many doors for you. As I read in a couple other posts. Take the negative things you read with a grain of salt and consider the source. You will get out of it what you put into it. The most important thing is your own attitude. That will be the determining factor in much of your success. While there are many rules, they are there for your own good and you must look at them in the spirit in which they are put in place. You will be miserable if all you focus on is the strict rules and how you can get around them. In my view, the underlying purpose of those rules is to build discipline and respect for authority, which I know from observation is sorely lacking in the generation that is coming along behind mine. By the way, there is plenty of opportunity for interaction with the opposite gender. I met my wife of 22-plus years at BJU, and we have produced three wonderful children. And you know what? All of us have turned out to be quite normal in spite of the influence of that "awful BJU."
