Major: (This Major's Salary over time)
I'll be honest, I always wanted to goto UT, but when I visited Tech, I never looked back, I also got into A&M, SMU, OU and a few other schools. Since I grew up near Austin I figured it would be good to go out and make new friends and experience something new...and I am happy to say that I am very happy with how that has turned out. First off, Lubbock feels different than any other part of Texas, it has a real set of seasons (snow and all) and the nice dry heat. Although I am "far" from home, there is more than enough to do here. I am really enjoying my academic program and all of the people here are very nice and the campus fosters a friendly academic/fun environment. Great library, great athletic facilities, this campus has it all. One of my friends actually came here instead of Rice, and he loves it just as much as I do, heck there are even a few transfers from UT here who moved because they were overwhelmed with Austin. Tech can definitely hold its own when it comes to being a college town, there is always something to do and you really feel like you are part of something as opposed to being another number. I think if Texas Tech were located closer to or in the DFW metroplex that TTU would have been a premier university in the country sooner. As of now it is ranking better and better every year, and many of its programs are growing and ranked in the top 30 nationally. More students are coming from out of state, and the school is growing, this is a great time to be at Tech, well except for the parking which kinda sucks but thats ok. I hear that they expect 40,000 students by 2020, which is insane, but I've already heard that there is a huge jump in the fall enrollment for 2010 something like 32,000 which would be incredible, its not too unlikely, Arizona State jumped like 8,000 in one year. Everywhere you go in Lubbock you see scarlet and black shirts and bumper stickers, it is definitely a city that embraces the university. I kind of wish it was closer to Dallas, but I would rather go here than UNT or some other crappy school (UT SA) just because of the city, the experience you get here is really great. I love Texas Tech, if you are thinking about coming here you should look into , they have a lot to offer, and it is always a fun time.
