Ok... Five Towns college. If your a film major, and you are willing to dedicate at least five days a week to doing pre production, shooting, or editing, five towns is the place for you. If you seek a place to get your hands on more than adequate equipment and talented peers, five towns is the place for you. Our chair is solid, and he has brought the program out of the ground as it was left by the administration. Heres the catch. MONEY HUNGRY ADMINISTRATION The school is poorly ran. Where is the money coming in, going? The teachers are under paid. The facilities are mediocre. There is really no film Department.- just one big room where all film classes are held. and a smalllllll studio space. Where is all the money going?- nobody knows nothin' as they say. The registrars office is directly referred to as the torture factory. When you want to have a meeting with anyone of importance it basically takes a court order. I still havent had a meeting with the beings in charge, after two letters to their offices, and many denied phone calls, and voicemails, months and months later, im sitting here with my thumb in my ass thinking of what i wanted to talk to them about ( just kidding, im still pissed) The cafeteria closes at 6:45, and then they sell left over perishable food- nothing hot- in the basement of a dorm which is hard to get to because unless you live in that building, you have to walk a few football fields around the dorms, down a big ass hill, to the bottom. After 1030= there is no food, or drink access. Oh yeah, you can't pay cash at night after the cafeteria closes. The food served is probably a quarter step up from mcdonalds health wise, and a step down taste wise, although the people working in the cafeteria are usually pretty nice, and most of them interact in a friendly manner. The owners and operators often smirk at students, or not acknowledge them. There is no relationship with the student body on their part- probably because they only care about making money, and care little bit to better the emotional state of the school's student body and faculty. There are always extra fees attatched to classes, which is bull shit because the tuition is higher than it should be. so basically you could take five classes, and barely touch any equipment for these classes and at 300 dollars per class "fee". thats 1500 bucks a semester that could be saved for a senior project. The dorms are bullshit- if you drive a car, or dont mind commuting like twenty minutes. or riding a bike for fall semester and spring when it isnt 0 degrees or snowing. I would strongly suggest finding an apartment with ftc students. Your life will be a ton better i promise you. The parking lot is where its at..... enough said ALL IN ALL- College is what you make it. If you go to school with a passion to learn a craft, and make yourself accessible to work on projects, help fellow students, converse with faculty, be around and care about others in the department, work with students on projects outside your department- then you will go far in and after school. All college is, for film students, and even audio kids- NETWORK NETWORK NETWORK NETWORK. learn the basics of everything related to your line of work, narrow yourself down to something you really like to do for the cause, and something (as a backup) that your good at for the cause, and learn a lot about those two things. Get good, and network. spread the word and get yourself out there. I'll be the first famous person to graduate this joint. watch it
