If you do not worship Glenn Beck, God help you at this school. Yes, it is in the Bible Belt, but what passes for moderate in the rest of the country is considered radically liberal at Tech. Most of the students here come from surrounding small towns, and refuse to think for themselves. Ruston is redneck paradise. Most people go home for the weekend, and I definitely always do. I'm from Shreveport and Tech makes Shreveport look like San Francisco. My department is great and deserves better recognition. The professors are from all over and many hold degrees from top universities. If you can suffer through all the ultra-right religious nuts "witnessing" non stop, not to mention all the homophobic and racist talk all over campus. The architecture program is also phenomenal, I am always completely in awe of the stuff they do. You can find your own niche of friends, it takes time but you will, and just work all the week then party at home on the weekend. But I would have to admit, the ideal person best suited to here is a far-right wing, fundamentalist Obama-hater who's majoring in engineering.
