14 years after graduation and I am still in the art and technology field. My undergraduate years were a necessary continuation of my undergrad study, both personally and professionally. I was given room to explore issues of community service and education, all of which helped me create a path for myself beyond grad school. I think SAIC is more suited for graduate level study because of the level of motivation needed and focus. I was able to select advisors from a various of fields, some directly related to my study, some not, but all helpful. My advisors were very supporter and some of the electives I took were wonderfully engaging, especially in art history and criticism. I was given permission from the various departments to leave SAIC and Chicago after only one year of study. I completed my independent study in New York and returned for my thesis show which could have been stronger had I stayed but because I had a job I was able to make the transition to a career more easily than my peers. Not having access to a traditional campus was problematic for me but I was able to find a community on the southside that fit my lifestyle and enabled me to connect to urban youth which is still a part of my work today.
