Date: Nov 13 2008 Major: (This Major's Salary over time) Remind yourself of the hobbies you had as a younger person and how enjoyable they were. If you find yourself wishing the school room you are in would burn down with all the people in it trapped like the human garbage they are then you should seriously look into other areas to get a Major or Minor degree in.
When I attended UCD from 99-04 the English program was crap. Since then several department heads have rolled and things supposedly are better. Well, my tuition money hasn't come back so I don't really care about how the problem has been fixed after I left. The point is your favored discipline is affected by things on a quarterly basis. You will not get training for job placement in most of the fields unless it is as a UC cog (lecturer without job security)as the whole system is run like a business now. (Check the payment for Deans and the like versus the general faculty if you don't believe me. You're in school, so do some research.)
The money you flush away going to school is gone whether you receive quality instruction or bunk. And since most of you will be in debt upon leaving it is better to spend most of college working in fields you really love to develop personal skills to use outside of the restrictive confines of a University. Higher education is no guarantee of anything except money going from you to them. Make sure you actually get something for what you are paying for.
