Bel- Rea may not be a lot of hands on experience, but what sets us a side from vet assistants and other vet tech schools is understanding "why" we are doing what we do in the clinic. Yes I work in a clinic and it a good way to get hands on experience. However, each and every day I learn from Bel -rea teachers and other students the science behind the lab work and the reason we do certain diagnostic tests and procedures.Bel -rea is an intense course of labratory procedures and clinical work. We need to learn the academics behind what we are doing. Afterall we have the rest of our lives to work in clinics to get the hands on experience we desire. Just be patient at Bel-rea, the upper quarter classes tend to do more hands on work. Overall the course is a lot of reading and studying, not much time for anything else. You are not here to just pet and walk the dogs. If thats what you want go be a kennel tech. As far as the other reviews about Bel-rea they mention books vs manuals. If you want to buy the expensive books, open them read them use them for reference, keep them in your library. Otherwise you can get by with just a cheap manual. The teachers don't give you a bunch of boaring reading assignments from the books, why would you complain about that. The manuals are broken down parts of the books to simplify studying. If you really want an education then you must read the expensive books on your own time or in conjuction with topics in class. If you have ever attended other technical schools, they all seem like a waste of money. I would rather have the Bel-rea name behind me,
