I found Pitt to be a tremendous school and absolutely loved it. As for the negative comments on this site about Pitt, you can tell there is a negative bias towards certain majors and so I would take note of that when deciding on choosing this University. Generally I have found that people in the sciences (premed, pharm, engineering, business, finance, economics, etc) have been more than pleased with this University. People in more liberal majors, I can see how they may have found Pitt disagreeable. Also, very hard working/high achieving students, you might say workaholic/overachieving and honors college students do tremendously well here. If you are that type of person I feel that the hustle and bustle and congestion of Oakland can really push you into overdrive. If you are into meeting lots of people, doing and experiencing lots of new things, this is the place for you. If you like quiet, taking things slow and easy, I can see how you would really be uncomfortable at Pitt, and I saw people of that type unhappy here. You can have a phenomenal experience here both in character and curricular. Note:the Pitt name won't really take you anywhere, but it won't stop you from going anywhere as well. If you're aiming at graduate school, any and all Ivy league schools are accessible if you work for it. (Besides, if you're really that good, you're going to succeed anywhere. ) I would concur that it is a somewhat liberal environment (all colleges basically are), and has a bit of a more intellectual feel that typical state schools, which I attended for grad school. It's not just parties, booze, and sports, which may be a disappointment to you. Please contact me for questions!
