If you want to study internation relations or political science, AU has a great program (though perhaps not as prestigious as other DC schools.) However, if you're thinking about a different major or want to explore your options, AU is probably not the best school. I found that the General Education program existed only so that AU could say that students were required to have a well-rounded education. For the most part, students chose those Gen Ed courses which would apply to their majors. And the classes which do not apply to a political science major are filled with busy work and sub par professors. The College of Arts and Sciences, which houses the majority of majors (though not business, political science, international studies, or communications,) lacks the resources of the schools. Think twice about American if you're not set on studying political sciences, ESPECIALLY if you want to study hard sciences.
