VCU is a good school to come to to not only learn about whatever you are studying but also life. I just finished my first year and honestly I don't have any big issues about VCU. Yes, there are homesless people wandering around on campus - which does both me a little - but I think they know their boundaries. Never have I ever seen one walk in to a campus building. Not even in the common areas. I do think that the school could do a better job setting up roommates. I had a horrible, inconsiderate roommate and the only question on the housing application was if I preferred a smoker or a non-smoker...but what is the point if you aren't even allowed to smoke in the buildings? I think that they should have some sort of personality test to match people up with. That's just my opinion. The food is good, I don't do subway though - I found a hair in my food - but I haven't had any other problems with the other places. People are really friendly. You could literally walk up to someone and start a conversation with them. The upperclassmen are annoying. Girls and guys. Both predators and act way more arrogant than they should be. The parties are fun, but don't go to 534 on Harrison [I think?]. Too many locals there and they all are disrespectful and ghetto. I had a midget grab me and my friends' butt while we were there and when we turned around and he was the only one there, he acted like it wasn't him. House parties are fun but often crowded since apartments here are small. If you find yourself paying every $10 weekend to get in somewhere, you're dumb. There are parties you can go to where you don't have to pay at all or pay too much because usually in the end it will probably suck if you have to pay. My teachers were helpful and they definitely provided me with enough materials to do well in the class. Its just a matter of whether you take advantage of it or not. Housing is horrible. I don't understand how they have more freshman dorms and how they are closer to the campus than the upperclassmen dorms. My second year I am staying in a dorm thats still really close and about the same walking distance from the dorms. They have a housing fair after the housing lottery which helps but be careful if you decide to rent with clachan properties. The realtor Tony Montenegro took my security deposit and I didn't hear from him again. In the end after many calls to management they told us he leased the apartment to someone else. Overall VCU is a pretty good school despite what most people have been saying about it. I don't see myself getting sick of it either as the years go on.
