Beloit is a great place. I'm glad that I actually managed to stick it out, because I've had some personal health problems since I've started here. In any case, I really think that Beloit has taught me that I am an individual of academic value. It doesn't matter that I'm not the top student in a class, professors still treat me with respect, speak to me on a first-name basis, and respect my opinions. Beloit's lack of a traditional core curriculum also allowed me to take classes that interested me, not just ones to fill time. Everything is also very interdisciplinary. I use knowledge that I've gained from other classes in current class discussion multiple times a day. Students here are definitely overall very bright, even if they don't appear so at first glance. There are some duds but that's everywhere. Students are also overall very liberal and somewhat closeminded in that regard, but political diversity is somewhat improving. The town is not too great, but there is always so much going on on campus (and you'll probably have a lot of work) so that doesn't really bother me. If you need to see a city, Chicago is 90 miles away, Madison 50, Milwaukee 70, and Rockford 25. One last thing though, if you're not into a small school, Beloit's not for you. Classes are generally made up of less than 20 people and are heavily discussion based so you need to talk. It's also nice to wander into your friends all day , but also keep in mind that if there's someone you don't want to see, you'll probably see them too. News travels fast both socially and academically among professors.
