Illinois State is a reasonable choice if cost is a major consideration. Overall, I think the students are much more nice and compassionate than at University of Illinois. Unfortunately the latin root for "nice" and "stupid" are the same. The business school's professors are VERY hot and cold. There are a few really involved, caring teachers who know what they're doing, and on the flip side, there are many professors who seem like they'd rather be sniffing paint thinner vapors than spend another moment instructing a class. This was especially the case with the upperclassmen Finance professors--I think Paul Molander and Kim Smalls were the only worthwhile professors teaching Finance. Illinois State has, literally, no prestige associated with it. If I hadn't been #1 in my class, with a 4.00 GPA, I would have never gotten the job I did at a Fortune 100 company. Even as the #1 student in my graduating business school, I was still competing for jobs with "average" students (3.0 - 3.5 GPAs) from Purdue, Indiana University, U of Illinois, and a few other well regarded Universities. The social life at ISU focuses mostly on house parties. The bars are atrocious, and if you want to bar hop you almost have no other choice but to drive the 6 or 7 miles downtown to Normal (and the Normal Gustappo will get you on a DUI faster than you can say revoked license). As a moderately attractive male, I was quite happy with the number of women (particularly attractive women) at the school. Hooking up was never difficult, and that's one of the few things that mitigated my otherwise mundane experience.
