Having come from a very plain vanilla background, I found NYU to be a breath of fresh air. The diversity of backgrounds and interests result in a very friendly atmosphere. You will find that no one is competing to fit in the same cookie cutter. When you add this variety of students to the array of opportunities and splendors of the city, literally everything is possible. If you ever wanted to be a cheerleader, write for the school paper, fence, intern with the NY Times or the Yankees, or work in a fashion showroom, etc. this is the best place to be.
