Major: (This Major's Salary over time)
I don't see why everyone bashes Hofstra so much. First off, it's an up and coming school, that soon may reach the caliber of an NYU in about 5 years or so. The school is competitive, and offers MANY resources for students. These include free tutoring, computer labs, advisors, counseling services, a career center, and many many more. Academic wise, they offer strong programs for each popular major. If you work hard, you will go far. Now a days, a Hofstra diploma/degree is earning a more prestigious name. Sure, some classes or professors may be horrible, but not every school is perfect! Im currently in New College- the Freshman Division. It's a first year introductory program for students who didn't reach up to the schools demanding SAT scores. So far, my professors are great- with the exception of one writing professor who treats us like we are in middle school and throws hissy fits and temper tantrums if we dare speak to anyone lol. Anyway, College is what you make out of it. Socially, there is A LOT to do. Regardless of the surrounding area being "ghetto" in a sense, there is a lot to do. There are hundreds of clubs, over a dozen fraternities, sororities, sports, intramurals, trips, free programs, nassau collesium is right next door and students recieve reduced price tickets, etc. MUCH MUCH MORE. Also, there is never a lack of a good party, and with over 4 bars right across the street or in walking distance, you can't go wrong. The city is right around the corner, with the train station less than 2 miles from campus. The dorms are OK, the towers are really gross, I live in the netherlands, which are actually quite nice. It's suite style living, with a living room area, bathroom, and 2 bedrooms. The school offers many different options, such as suites with lounge, suites without lounge, doubles, triples, quads, singles. Apartment style, condo style, high rise style, etc. I recommned suite-style in the netherlands north(all freshman) or south(any undergrad, colonial square, or nassau/suffolk halls(a bit far walk from classes). People are generally friendly, but you need to be outgoing and open minded, approach people often to make friends, and just be NICE! If people are rude there are thousands of other people to hang out with. If you dont like partying, you will find people who dont like partying, if you do, then you will find people who do. There are many different groups- COLLEGE IS FUN so don't sit in your DORM and complain, if you dont try, you wont have fun. Make sure you balance out work and play, and you'll be fine. BEST OF LUCK TO ALL IN THE APPLICATION PROCESS.
