I found Beloit College to be a wonderful place. I grew up in a rural community where the vast majority (like 85%) of the high school graduates in my school did not go to college. Furthermore, I was the first person in my family to go to college. Consequently, I was not really prepared for the academically challenging environment I faced at Beloit. However, since my professors expressed a real interest and desire to see me academically excel, I was able to adjust the heightened academic expectations I faced at Beloit. While always intellectually challenged, within two semesters I was academically thriving at Beloit. I credit my educational experience at Beloit with developing my critical thinking skills and my life long love of learning. Though I was a history major, one of the major strengths of Beloit is their interdisciplinary approach to teaching. The professors at Beloit do a wonderful job of illuminating the links between history, science, art, philosophy and literature. After four years of being exposed to the world this way, you realize that what it means to be "liberally educated." I believe that being liberally educated helps me in my legal career. The most important part of my job is to help people and corporations solve their legal problems. I believe that the liberal arts education I received at Beloit helps me view legal issues in a holistic manner and allows me to look for and find creative, out-of-the-box solutions.
