It's true, UNF is not Harvard, but it's not CC either. My experience was excellent. My professors wanted me to succeed and went the extra mile for me every time. They did it because I was serious about getting the most that I could out of the experience. If you just want to party and couple, fine. You can do that at any school. Don't get me wrong. I partied hard, too. But I was also genuinely interested in learning and discovering. I did well, and was accepted at a number of well-regarded grad schools when the time came because I worked hard, with faculty guidance, to be prepared. I lived in the apartments next to the campus - lots of volleyball and other extracurricular activities! I also spent a lot of time "studying" at the beach - something you can't do at UF or FSU with the kind of regularity I did at UNF. As for athletics, the baseball team is excellent. But I would much rather UNF be recognized for academics than athletics. Why? Because it's a university, silly! If you want athletics to take precedence over a solid education, you've go no business at UNF. Jacksonville the city? Well, it's very spread out. But if you stay close to the beach, you'll find many wacky kinds of folks. I know it's in the bible belt. I know it's not very tolerant away from the beach. But I found a number of excellnt people to hang with who were not bible-toting, confederate relics. When I left there were a number of New Yorkers moving into the area. Watch out! Like any large city, it has good and bad. It's best not to get hung up on perceptions that a town is liberal or conservative. I studied in Ann Arbor MI, too. And there are lots of conservatives there as well. Don't count UNF out if you're still considering where you want to study. My experience was a definite positive.
