pros: - the first suburb outside of a major city; chicago is easily accessible - big 10 sports - an incredible swimming and athletic facility (SPAC) - college of arts and sciences has reading week at the end of every quarter before finals = no classes - public transportation accessible - charlie moskos teaching sociology - dillo day cons: - brutally cold winters - career services lacking decent services - career services propensity to advise students to apply to graduate school if they do not know how to advise on career related matters - school year ends in mid-june - lack of access to classes within school of music and other smaller departments and majors - the majority of the students end up with careers in consulting or banking, with few resources for those with other interests - poor job placement outside of the midwest - the greek system - dry campus - lack of support for the job search in industries outside of consulting and banking/finance - lack of cohesiveness among student body - self-segregation among the diverse populations - lacking minority presence - most classes are lectures and rote memorization with mandatory TA/discussion sections that add little to the learning experience - few course offerings in modern lit in the english department - exhorbitant cost to attend; not worth your money - it's certainly not harvard; you're more often a student id number as opposed to a human being
